Types of Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes mellitus disease can be classified into several kinds: i.e. Diabetes mellitus type 1 and 2, diabetes caused by pregnancy or gestational diabetes that needs gestational diabetes diet, diabetes of the special type, and diabetes caused by the damage of the glucose balance.

a. Diabetes Type 1

Diabetes type 1 happens because of the damage of the beta pancreas which causes deficiency (or reducing) the insulin production. c. Pregnancy Diabetes

Pregnancy diabetes is a condition of intolerance glucose that happens to pregnant women sometimes we call it gestational diabetes. This diabetes mellitus condition happens during pregnancy. Usually it is diagnosed at the second and third trimester of pregnancy, that is at the beginning of the 4th month of pregnancy until the end of pregnancy. This diabetes happening is 4% from the whole pregnancy. This disease will recover automatically at the end of pregnancy, but there is a risk of development into diabetes type 2. e. Diabetes Because of Glucose Balance Damage

1. Impaired Fasting Glucose Tolerance (IFG) which means that when fasting , the blood glucose level is bigger than 110 mg/dl, but less than 126 mg/dl.

2. Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) which is explained from the test result, that the glucose tolerance is bigger than 140 mg/dl, but less than 200 mg/dl.

Although clinically IFG and LGT are not real diabetes, but this disease has the risk to develop into diabetes mellitus disease and heart disease.
